Now its my turn to cut you off. *North Korea threatened to restrict and shut all overland passage through the military demarcation line (MDL), the border between North Korea and South Korea. The Military Demarcation Line was established as the ceasefire line at the end of Korean War hostilities in 1953. Panmunjom village, located on the northern side of the MDL, which runs through the middle of the Demilitarized Zone, is considered one of the last vestiges of the Cold War. North Korea refused nuclear sampling and shut the Red Cross liaison office and all direct telephone lines between the South and the North. The North Korean military warned that it will strictly restrict and cut off all overland passage between the two Koreas. The official cut off of the hot line is the first time in 37 years since the North and South Korea held talks through their respective Red Cross societies aiming for reuniting the Korean families separated during the division of Korea in 1971. Analysts said the North, closing its few border crossings and refusing to let international inspectors remove samples from a plutonium-producing plant, was retreating deeper into its shell amid growing speculation over the health of leader Kim Jong-il. They say that the North is seeking instead to turn the focus onto the South and its conservative President Lee Myung-bak, who cut off what once had been a free flow of unconditional aid when he took office in February and tied future handouts to the North's denuclearization. ニュースアニメ「３７年の歴史『板門店ホットライン』断絶南北関係に危機来るか？」 北朝鮮が、南北（韓国・北朝鮮）軍事境界線上にある板門店（パンムンジョム）を経由するすべての南北直通電話を断絶し、来月から軍事分界線（ＭＤＬ）経由のすべての陸路通行を「厳格に制限、遮断する」と宣言した。過去９カ月間停滞してきた南北関係は韓国の新政権発足後、最悪の状況を迎えることになった。特に１９７１年の南北赤十字会談が開かれて以来３７年間にわたり南北間の直通網（ホットライン）として利用されてきた板門店の直通電話は、かつて北朝鮮が受信しなかった場合はあったものの公式的な断絶は今回が初めて。また北朝鮮外務省は、核施設の検証を受ける際、核物質の「サンプル採取」を拒否する立場を明らかにし、北朝鮮の核問題をめぐるオバマ米次期大統領との交渉で機先を制する狙いだ。今後、核問題をめぐる交渉も難航するとみられる。
