Kevin threw his cellphone across his bed and slammed his head down. "I HATE HIM!" He shouted aloud, and stood straight up. "I HOPE THE LITTLE PUKE FREEZES." He punched a dent in the wall next to him. "I HOPE HE NEVER COMES BACK! I HATE HIM!" He threw his head back against the dented wall, closing his eyes. "I don't hate him." He whispered to himself. "I love him." "Knock Knock!" Chirped a voice from downstairs. Kevin's eyes darted open and he jet up from the floor. He busily made his way down the steps. "Hey there!" Christy giggled, her cheeks red from the cold. "How's it going, Kevin?" "Hey, Christy." Kevin smiled numbly, avoiding her question. "Well, I just came to see Nick, he was supposed to come to my house to study, but, I guess he forgot," She shrugged her shoulders. So many thoughts flew through Kevin's mind. 'How could I be so STUPID!' he thought, 'My little brother is out in the freezing cold, completely lost,' His eyes widened as he realized the severity of what he'd just done. 'He's alone,' He felt his heart beating faster and faster in his rising chest. Suddenly, he started to panic. "Oh my God." He whispered aloud, crossing his arms. "Oh no." He darted down the stairs and threw his coat over his tensed shoulders. "What?" Christy's eyes carried a glimmer of fear, "What's wrong?" "I'm the most horrible person in the world," Kevin nodded to himself, rushing to slip his shoes on. "What?" Christy followed him in to the kitchen where he hurriedly grabbed his keys. "What happened?" "I left him, Christy." Kevin sighed, stuffing his hands into gloves and grabbing Christy's wrist. "I need to go find him. It's a Friday. You don't have school tomorrow, you're coming with me." "What?" Christy panicked as Kevin gently pulled her to his car. "Where are we going?" "Wherever Nick is." _______________________ "You just LEFT him there!" Christy shouted as Kevin drove the lengths of the dark, deserted roads. "Yes!" Kevin sighed, gripping the steering wheel after just telling Christy the entire story. "Well, you heard what he said! That was horrible!" "Yes, it was," She agreed, irritated. "But you can't LEAVE him! What if he's DEAD!" She gasped, tears brimming in her glistening eyes. "No, No. He's not dead." Kevin silently prayed that he was right. He bit the inside of his cheek nervously as the wipers rhythmically sliced the sleet off the winshield. His eyes scanned every corner of the street, it was no use, though. It was pitch black in the middle of the frigid winter. 'What is wrong with me?' He thought to himself. 'How could I just leave him out like that, to die?' He clenched the steering wheel until his knuckles turned white. He hated himself more than anybody else in the world. This was his little brother. Sure, he had been nothing but a pain and a mood dampener since Joe, but still, it was his little brother. Kevin's memory flashed back to one of the many times he'd thrown a punch at Nick. He used to love that look of pure terror that streaked across his face, right as the punch made contact with it. He shuddered at the thought of Nick, the only person Kevin had left, flinching under the punch of somebody else. There were so many sick people out there, so many muggers, so many murderers. So many sick people, but then, Kevin realized, that he was one of them. He was one of the twisted, ill minded phycopaths in the world. He drove faster, only mildly aware of the petrified Christy, who sat, shaking, beside him. His eyes looked up into the dark sky, lighted only by the headlights on his car. He felt a rush of relief pour through his rigid body when he read the bold letters of a sign that hung over a large, brick building: "HOLLYWOOD RECORDS." This was it. This was where he left Nick. He had to be here. "Right here!" Kevin shouted, jerking the car dangerously to the curb. "This is where he was last!" "He has to still be here!" Christy shot out of the car, her teeth chattering hard as he ran up to the desolate building that sat, casting an eerie shadow against the burning headlights. "NICK!" Kevin screamed, his voice echoing over the roads. He stood, completely silent, as the wind blew through his hair and snow flakes collected on his jacket. "NICK!" Christy repeated, her frail cheeks bright pink. Kevin shot his head around, his eyes not quite adjusting to the miserable darkness. He had never heard the world be so silent. The only noise the earth made, was the wind that pierced through him, and the sound of his own breathing. He turned around and looked forward at the never ending trail of dark that layed before him. "NICK!" He called once more, he closed his eyes, focusing on nothing but hearing his voice. He prayed to God that Nick could hear him. He clenched his fists and pressed his lips together. "Nick." He finally whispered, But there was no response.
