KamaFei è un composto in griko, che vuol dire caldo che scorre, quel caldo che ci accompagna in ogni stagione, che nasce dagli strumenti tra lantico ed il moderno, lo stesso calore che si cerca di dare durante i concerti e quel calore che restituisce la gente che ascolta ed è partecipe per ogni spettacolo che vorrebbe essere una festa che coinvolge come in una ronda estiva. Dallo scioglimento dei Kumenei , Antonio Melegari, Marco Santoro Verri e Matteo Manni intraprendono questa nuova strada e nel loro viaggiare si accompagnano a Stefano Calò alla chitarra. Lesperienza accumulata allinterno della musica tradizionale Salentina come Uccio Aloisi e innovativa come Mascarimirì e Kumenei (senza dimenticare l'esperienza nel progetto Kumenei&Lu Professore -Treble, uno dei fondatori ed ex membro dei Sud Sound System; nel progetto si è sperimentato l'incrocio, ben riuscito, di pizzica musica popolare e reggae). hanno permesso ai musicisti dei Kamafei di portare nel progetto innovazioni vicine alla musica attuale quale dub e reggae, ed inoltre ad avvicinarsi a sonorità fisicamente lontane ma vicine come pensiero e stile.(vedi flamenco e musica araba). KamaFei è un progetto che ripropone etnomusica dal Salento, canti damore e brani originali in lingua salentina per conservarne la memoria e la musicalità. componenti di KamaFei hanno partecipato in passato anche individualmente a progetti importanti e sono stati presenti sui palchi della Notte della Taranta nelle edizioni orchestrate da Joe Zawinul al fianco del noto cantore salentino Uccio Aloisi, e nelle due edizioni dirette da Ambrogio Sparagna, inoltre sempre per la Notte della Taranta presenti nel progetto Taranta De Spagna e de Salentu con gli spagnoli La Jambre; hanno suonato oltre che in Italia anche a Francia, Belgio, Germania, Lussemburgo, Portogallo, New York, in Africa nelle Isole di Capoverde, Spagna; al festival di Villa Ada a Roma, Isola Folk di Bergamo, Musiche dal Mondo di Caponago(MI), International Folk Dance di Rivoli, EthnoSur a Jaen (Granada), Asturia FOlk Festival, Parapanda Folk, solo per citarne alcuni. Stretta è la collaborazione con il festival Internazionale Sete Sois Sete Luas per il quale si sono esibiti nelle Isole di CaboVerde, in Portogallo a Lisbona, a Porto, Santa Maria de Feira , Montemurlo diffondendo la pizzica, la tradizione e linnovazione della musica salentina a quei popoli lontani dal Salento. Nel corso degli anni si sono confrontati, hanno collaborato o condiviso i palchi con musicisti di grande calibro: Almamegretta, RadioDervish, Uccio Aloisi, Faraualla, 'E Zezi, Massilia Sound System, Nidi dArac, Les ToublAmours, I musicanti del Piccolo Borgo, Francesco De Gregori, Piero Pelù, Giovanna Marini, Otello Profazio, Franco Battiato, Gianna Nannini, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Sonia Bergamasco, Davide Van De Sfross, Alessia Tondo, Daniele Sepe, Sud Sound System, Treble Lu Professore, Mimmo Epifani, Moni Ovadia, Apres La Classe, La Jambre, etc. Più forti sono i legami veri, vissuti con le proprie origini e più ci si può permettere di lavorarci sopra per costruire qualcosa di diverso, provocatorio, rivoluzionario ma credibile.
