Boom Boom Boomerang written by Lonnie Coleman performed by The de Castro Sisters with Thurl Ravenscroft released as Abbott 3003a in April 1955 The music business has produced a number of successful sister teams, from the Boswells to the Andrews, McGuires, Lennons, De Johns... the list grows on. Fondly remembered by their fans, though somewhat lost in the drift of time, are the de Castro Sisters -- Peggy, Cherie and Babette. The de Castro Sisters are worth remembering, and not just they made some fine music and were the first to popularize one of popular music's most enduring standards, "Teach Me Tonight" (their biggest hit, charting for 20 weeks, topping at #2). Their act included comedy, both intended and unintended, singing, dancing and apparent acting on stage. They were also the voices that sang Zip A Dee Doo Dah (with James Baskett) in Disney's 1946 film Song Of The South. Did they speed up their voices, or was it really their natural sound? Most popular in the 1950s, the de Castros began a decade earlier as a Latin act; virtually dropped the Latin aspect when they became the only pop act signed to the otherwise hillbilly-oriented Abbott label; did not record cover versions of recent black or country hits for the pop market, preferring to draw largely from their circle of friends and professional associates. This was their second biggest hit, charting at #17 on Billboard Hot 100 in May 1955. Along with Skip Martin's Orchestra, Thurl Ravenscroft provides excellent support. This record is g-g-g-great!
