In Part 2 we see CN 4714 and its train pull off the swing bridge, clatter over a diamond with a former Chicago & Northwestern spur track, cross McDonald Street, and creak through an S-curve into the ex-C&NW North Green Bay Yard. Then the crew closes the gate and rotates the swing bridge back open for river traffic.

CN usually only runs as-needed locals on the ex-Green Bay & Western Luxemburg branch (formerly Kewaunee Subdivision main) in the dead of night. However, on the morning of Tuesday, November 13, I heard a train horn loud and clear from the UWGB campus east of the city, and managed to beat it to the Elizabeth Street crossing on the east side of town as it came in behind GP38-2 CN 4714. Then I set up at McDonald Street across the Fox River, just as the old GB&W swing bridge spun into place. The train crept across the bridge with the conductor keeping watch from the front platform, and then stopped so he could open the gate at the other end.

After the Green Bay Packers' spectacular 34-0 shutout of the Minnesota Vikings, I decided to make a good day even better with a little railfanning. I was looking for A411, the Chicago-SSAM via Green Bay manifest that I had seen coming in during the late afternoon the last couple Sundays. I planned on going into town on Dousman Street, crossing the mainline, then driving south parallel to it on Ashland Avenue, and setting up somewhere south of town to get a runby of it at track speed, in an area where they can use the horn. The first flaw in that plan came when the gates went down as I was driving down Dousman Street, and I had to wait for an unexpected train after frantically digging my camcorder out of the back seat for some shitty video that is not worth showing here. After that surprise cleared, I attempted to follow through on my original plan, but I hadn't driven more than a few blocks when there was the headlight of A411 ahead on my left, about 90 minutes earlier than I had expected it! I quick pulled into the left turn lane at 9th Street and filmed from there. After it passed, I turned around and flew back up Broadway Street to the crossing at the entrance to North Green Bay Yard, just barely making it in time. The only saving grace was that the train had to stop to line a switch on its way into the yard. Power was EMD SD75I CN 5654 and GE Dash 9 CN 2579.

My dad caught two eastbounds within 5 minutes of each other at a private crossing southeast of Watertown, WI near Ixonia. CP ES44AC 8845 singlehandedly hauls the first. The second would have been nixed because the sun came out and he was on the wrong side, were it not for the fact that it was UP power on the CP! SD70Ms UP 4912 and UP 4458 haul this unit grain train.

On October 31, I chased another Park Job (CN Train L578) on its way back to North Green Bay Yard from the industrial park on the old GB&W. Canadian National EMD GP40-2LW 9460 provided the power. The train is seen crossing Military Avenue, Maple Avenue, and Walnut Street.

The Wisconsin & Southern Railroad's motive power roster was in a state of flux during the fall of 2007. My dad paid a visit to Five Points near the Janesville Yard on Halloween. In between clips of WSOR veteran SD40-2s 4001 and 4054 puttering around on yard jobs, he took shots of some of the new arrivals as well as the soon-to-be departed motors. During this period, WSOR was beginning to sell off its fleet of six ex-Illinois Central Paducah rebuild SD20s that had been with the railroad since 1996. By the time of this video, 2054, 2052 and 2055 had been retired from WSOR service and had their lettering and heralds painted over. The latter two were already relettered DBGX. The railroad aquired several locomotives to not only replace the SD20s but to expand the overall fleet. By this point, ex-Union Pacific SD40-2s WSOR 4010 and 4011 had arrived and were in service, as well as ex-Utah Railway SD40M-2 (SD40 frame with Dash 2 electronics upgrades) WSOR 4076. Of these, only 4010 had not received WSOR red and gray paint by the time of the video. WSOR was still awaiting delivery of six ex-CP/Soo Line (nee Milwaukee Road) MP15AC switchers and at least two more ex-UTAH SD40M-2s. To help cover the short-term power crunch, they brought in MJRX 711, an ex-Wisconsin Central/Soo Line GP30 with ALCo trucks (sister 715 resides at NRM in Green Bay). However, both it and an additional MJRX leaser ended up spending more of their time on the property sitting around the yard bad-ordered than actually in service.
