They draw inspiration from familiar and exotic pots and pans to put together a universal menu for their audience. Obscure vegetables and products from overseas bubble away in a melting-pot of customs and practices. The victuals are dished up and served to those present with great care and devotion and with respect for convention. Taste buds are caught off guard, gastronomic reason is challenged. Me gusta is a cultural adventure that is full of surprises. And it requires total abandonment on the part of the audience! Anyone who has seen the kitchen concert Patatboem and the culinary peep show PEEP&EAT knows that Laika sets out to tantalize more than just the eye and the ear. Witht time on my hands I thought I would try Sparrows again. These are not as short stroked as Yang O-shi's appear to be. I can only guess, but for now, even being able to see the sparrow on the page before I paint something there is a feat I fight hard to get over. Painting is not second nature to me though I am told it may be. It's a beautiful pastime and the root of it all wold be nice to think that someone else in Europe saw my efforts and would like to try their hand as well. Here are Five Sparrows, painted with traditional Chinese paints and paper, brushes and inks. All Chinese, even the mixing bowls are all authentic Chinese porcelain. Tuning: DGDGAE I like arranging music for the guitar that hasn't been done before. 'The Snowman' animated film from 1982 was a fond part of my childhood Christmas memories. That hauntingly beautiful melody is still one of my favorites, so I decided to turn it into a solo guitar piece. Anyone who has tried to arrange an orchestral piece for the guitar knows how difficult it can be. What parts to leave in, leave out and how to play those 3 or 4 parts at the same time, etc. It's always a compromise, but here I tried to capture the feel of the music rather than exact notes, with mixed success.
