The stream flows from Kathu and Muang districts. These are 2 of 3 districts of Phuket province. The canal flows into the Andaman Sea at Phuket Bay. The old Phuket people relate the significance Of Bang Yai canal saying it used to receive visitors from overseas during the flourishing tin mining era attracting immigrants to settle here. Today's growth of the city, brings in many civilizations. The water in Bang Yai canal, which was part of the main life cycle, was also affected. (Interview with Phuket City Mayor) The Office of Phuket City tries to revive the life and resolve the canal's problems. The Bang Yai Canal redevelopment and landscaping, was carried out. The Office of Phuket City places the priorities in minimizing flood problems and prepares to handle floods which usually occur in the rainy season. (interview with Phuket City mayor) Besides, in an effort to revive public utilization along the bank of the canal, every inch of the canal from Kor Jan bridge to Phuket Bay mouth, has been redeveloped. (interview) Theses are aimed at making Bang yai canal Not only just a stream that passes by, but a bond for Phuket people for generations to come.
