Now its my turn to cut you off. *North Korea threatened to restrict and shut all overland passage through the military demarcation line (MDL), the border between North Korea and South Korea. The Military Demarcation Line was established as the ceasefire line at the end of Korean War hostilities in 1953. Panmunjom village, located on the northern side of the MDL, which runs through the middle of the Demilitarized Zone, is considered one of the last vestiges of the Cold War. North Korea refused nuclear sampling and shut the Red Cross liaison office and all direct telephone lines between the South and the North. The North Korean military warned that it will strictly restrict and cut off all overland passage between the two Koreas. The official cut off of the hot line is the first time in 37 years since the North and South Korea held talks through their respective Red Cross societies aiming for reuniting the Korean families separated during the division of Korea in 1971. Analysts said the North, closing its few border crossings and refusing to let international inspectors remove samples from a plutonium-producing plant, was retreating deeper into its shell amid growing speculation over the health of leader Kim Jong-il.
